SURP – The Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Toronto provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to conduct their very own research for 16 weeks, as well as the chance to do some outreach.


USA

SSP –  The Summer Science Program takes place in Sorroco and Boulder for high school juniors and sophomores.

STScl – If being at the scientific operations centre for the Hubble Space Telescope sounds like an awesome opportunity then take a look at the Summer Programme offered by the Space Telescope Science Institute.

FDL – The NASA Frontier Development Lab is looking for planetary scientists and computer or data scientists with hands-on skills in machine learning, DNNs and other algorithmic approaches.

LPI – The Lunar and Planetary Institute offers research at LPI or at the NASA Johnson Space Centre, both in Houston.

ESSIP – The Exploration Science Summer Intern Program is also located at LPI, Houston.

LIGO – Summer Research focusing on gravitational waves located at Caltech, or in Washington or Louisiana.

SURF – Research Fellowships offered by Caltech.

Yale – Spend a summer at Yale as an astronomy researcher with the Dorrit Hoffleit Undergraduate Research Scholarship.

CUREA – An undergraduate observational programme at the Mount Wilson Observatory.

SPS – The Society of Physics Students offers a summer internship for Physics students in science research, education and policy, located in Washington, DC.

CASPER – Theoretical and Experimental summer research opportunities at the Centre for Astrophysics, Space Physics & Engineering Research, Texas.

Colorado – Summer Programme in Solar and Space Physics.

Akamai – For citizens and permanent residents of the US, opportunities are available at Pasadena, and on The Big Island and Maui, Hawaii.

Arecibo Observatory – 10 week research conducted at the largest radio telescope in the world, Puerto Rico, for undergraduates. Funding is available only for US citizens, but if others can find funding elsewhere then they are more than welcome to apply!

CRESST – The Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology is located in Baltimore and offers 10 week paid internships. Students don’t have to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

JPL – The Visiting Student Research Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA) offers research opportunities for foreign nationals who have secured their own funding. There are also a tonne more opportunities for U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.

Bryce Canyon National Park – A unique astronomy outreach internship which involves giving talks about astronomy and dark sky preservation and operating telescopes. For undergraduate students interested in teaching astronomy to the general public, for 12 weeks this summer.
